A Phenomenon of Light and Faith

The Abbot Orsini documented that every year, on the Feast of the Annunciation, three blue lights would shine through the church windows in Olion, Catalonia. These mysterious lights were said to ignite the lamps and wax candles of the church before vanishing just as suddenly as they had appeared. The event was inexplicable, but the faithful accepted it as a divine sign honoring Our Lady.

A similar legend tells that in Olion, the candles and lamps of the church were mysteriously lit by unseen hands, only to extinguish themselves three days later, on March 28th. Despite investigations, no natural cause was ever found, reinforcing the belief that these occurrences were miraculous in nature.

The Lost Church of Olion

The church mentioned in these accounts is believed to have been located in what is now Oliana, Spain, a small town in the Sergre Valley. Today, Oliana is known more for its scenic landscapes and rock climbing than for its religious heritage. No trace of the original church remains, and the only significant historic church nearby is Sant Climent, an 11th-century structure near Coll de Nargó, about six miles away.

A Forgotten Devotion

Despite the disappearance of the church and the fading of the tradition, the mystery of Our Lady of Castelbruedo remains a testament to the deep Marian devotion that once flourished in this region. While modern records on this title of Our Lady are scarce, the legend continues to inspire those who hear of it.

If anyone has additional historical information about Our Lady of Castelbruedo, it would be invaluable to preserve this forgotten aspect of Catholic tradition. Feel free to share insights so that this devotion may once again be known and cherished by the faithful.
