The Apparition of Our Lady of Hope of Pontmain

During the devastation of the Franco-Prussian War, on the night of January 17, 1871, in the little village of Pontmain, thirty miles from Laval, Eugene and Joseph Barbedette, aged ten and twelve respectively, were helping their father feeding the cows when Eugene, going to the barn door to look at the weather, was transfixed by the strange appearance of the sky. It was a clear bright evening and there were many stars.
